Where is Bosham?

This picturesque and sought-after village, sitting on a peninsula at the northern end of Chichester Harbour, is incomparable to other coastal villages. With its close proximity to Chichester Harbour, and its relaxed atmosphere, parts of which have remained unchanged for centuries, Bosham is the perfect place to live. It’s one of the oldest villages in Sussex, with a history dating back to Roman times, making it full of historic charm – even by the high standard of other West Sussex villages.

Bosham Area Guide

One of the many aspects which makes Bosham such a desirable location to live is the sense of community the residents experience. The village is home to over 3,000 people, which makes it large enough to support a village school, local playing fields, and a number of shops and pubs. There is a wonderful ancient Church, tea shops, restaurants, and the famous Bosham Sailing Club, where activity on and off the water continues beyond the summer season – including dinghy sailing.

In Bosham, the residents enjoy a dynamic community, with a healthy mix of growing young families, alongside a number of retirees. Home to over 200 pupils, Bosham Primary School has an excellent reputation, proudly showcasing their ‘Good’ Ofsted rating. There’s also little traffic passing through the area, just the cars to the visitors’ car park, which means children and adults alike can wander through the streets without having to worry about dodging fast-moving traffic.

There is also an area of the village dedicated solely to art and crafts shops, showcasing many local artists. After finding plenty of items to spend your money on, you can retire to the waterfront Café Breeze, which is always busy serving refreshments to locals and tourists.

The harbour is mainly used by Bosham Sailing Club, which is situated on the Meadow just in front of the Quay and is naturally a hub of activity for the local area.

The road immediately next to the harbour attracts many drivers who accidentally leave their vehicles unattended when the tide comes in. If this sounds like you, your car may get covered in saltwater on your next visit, so be careful where you park!

Combine this village charm with the atmosphere of the traditional houses, it’s no wonder why Bosham is such a desirable location in the Chichester area. There are a number of smaller modern homes or period cottages available for families or couples enjoying the coast, as well as local amenities for weekenders that yearn for some relaxation on the water after a busy week in the city.

Landlords in West Sussex often finding themselves as incidental owners through inheritance, although many Hancock and Partners’ clients find the wrench to sell a family home in such a fabulous location difficult.
